Privacy Policy
Secretary is built local-first: your messages, accounts, and history live on your own device, not on our servers. This policy explains what that means, and the little information Quiet Hours (“we”, “us”) does handle when you use this website or the app.
1.The short version
- Your message content never reaches us. Secretary is a desktop app with no backend that stores your conversations.
- Your secrets stay on your machine. API keys and OAuth tokens are encrypted on-device using your operating system’s keystore.
- You choose the AI. AI runs on your own provider key, or fully offline on a local model — your account, your data, your bill.
- On the website, the only personal data we collect is the email you choose to give us to join the waitlist.
2.Data stored on your device
When you use the Secretary app, the following is stored locally on your computer and is not transmitted to Quiet Hours:
- Messages, threads, and contacts synced from the services you connect.
- Account connections and session data for those services.
- Your API keys and OAuth tokens, encrypted with your OS keystore (for example, Electron
safeStorage). The interface never sees them in the clear. - Your settings and app preferences.
Because this data is on your device, you control it — deleting the app and its data removes it.
3.Third-party services you connect
When you link a service such as WhatsApp, Gmail, Slack, or LinkedIn, the app communicates directly between your device and that service using its official API or protocol. Your use of those services is governed by their privacy policies and terms, not this one. We do not sit in the middle of that traffic and do not receive a copy of it.
4.AI processing
Secretary’s AI features use a model provider you configure. Depending on your choice:
- Hosted model (e.g. Anthropic or Gemini): the content needed to draft a reply is sent from your device to that provider under your own account and key, subject to that provider’s privacy policy and terms.
- Local model (e.g. Ollama): processing happens entirely on your device and nothing is sent to any provider.
Either way, the request goes from your device to the provider you selected — not through Quiet Hours.
5.Information the website collects
Waitlist email
If you submit the waitlist form, we collect the email address you provide so we can notify you when Secretary is ready. Submissions are processed byWeb3Forms, a third-party form service that forwards the message to us; their handling is subject to their own privacy policy. We use your email only to contact you about Secretary, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
Basic technical data
Like most websites, our host may process standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) to serve pages and protect against abuse. This site is served through Cloudflare. If we add analytics or cookies, we will describe them here before launch.
6.How we use information
- To let you know when Secretary is available (waitlist email).
- To operate, secure, and improve the website and app.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
We do not sell your personal information.
7.Retention and your choices
We keep waitlist emails until launch or until you ask us to delete yours, whichever comes first. Data stored by the app stays on your device under your control. To exercise any rights you have over your personal data — access, correction, or deletion — contact us and we’ll help.
8.Security
The local-first design is itself a privacy measure: there is no central store of your messages to breach. On your device, sensitive credentials are encrypted with your operating system’s keystore. No system is perfectly secure, though, and while the Service is pre-release you should treat it accordingly.
9.Children
The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
10.Changes to this policy
As Secretary is still in development, this policy will evolve. We’ll update the date above when we make changes and, for material ones, provide notice where practical.
