Terms of Service

Last updated July 1, 2026 · Draft v0 — subject to change

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Secretary, a desktop application, and this website (together, the “Service”), provided by Quiet Hours (“we”, “us”). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1.Pre-release software

Secretary is early, pre-release software under active development. It is offered on an experimental basis and may be incomplete, unstable, or unavailable at any time. Features can change, break, or be removed without notice, and data formats may not be preserved between versions. Do not rely on the Service for anything critical.

2.What Secretary is

Secretary is a local-first desktop app that brings conversations from services you already use — such as WhatsApp, Gmail, Slack, and LinkedIn — into a single inbox and helps you draft replies. Your messages, accounts, and history are stored on your own device. There is no Quiet Hours server that receives or stores your message content. See ourPrivacy Policy for details.

3.Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. If you use Secretary on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms for it.

4.Your accounts and third-party services

Secretary connects to third-party platforms using their official APIs or protocols, acting asyou, with credentials you provide. You are responsible for:

  • Complying with the terms and policies of each platform you connect (for example, WhatsApp, Google, Slack, and LinkedIn).
  • Having the right to access and use those accounts and their contents.
  • Keeping your devices and credentials secure.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or responsible for those third-party services, and their availability or behavior is outside our control. Connecting an account may be subject to, and could violate, that platform’s own terms — that is your responsibility to evaluate.

5.Bring your own AI key

Secretary’s AI features run on a model provider you choose and configure — for example, your own Anthropic or Gemini API key, or a fully local model via Ollama. You are responsible for your use of those providers, for any usage fees they charge, and for complying with their terms. When you use a hosted provider, the content you send for processing is handled under that provider’s terms and privacy policy.

6.Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Break the law or infringe anyone’s rights, including privacy and intellectual-property rights.
  • Send spam, harass others, or send communications you are not permitted to send.
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security or access controls of any platform.
  • Reverse engineer, resell, or misrepresent the Service, except where the law says you may.

7.Your content

You keep all rights to your messages, contacts, and other content. Because Secretary is local-first, that content stays on your device; we do not claim ownership of it and we do not receive it. You are solely responsible for your content and for how you use any replies the Service helps you draft — always review AI-generated drafts before sending.

8.Intellectual property

The Service, including the Secretary and Quiet Hours names, software, and design, is owned by us and protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose while these Terms are in effect.

9.Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that AI-generated content will be accurate or appropriate. This is especially true while the Service is pre-release.

10.Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Quiet Hours will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, messages, profits, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11.Changes and termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service or these Terms at any time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the date above and, where practical, provide notice. You may stop using the Service at any time; uninstalling the app ends your license. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12.Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction — to be finalized], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
